Loco Moco

The art of leftovers comes fully around in this dish. Loco Moco is a Hawaiian dish that I absolutely love. It’s a simple dish of rice, hamburger patty, egg, and gravy. I spiced this one up with some extra cheese and bacon that I had lying around.

For this photo, I wanted to try something different in the way of plating. Instead of using a plate, I have opted to use small cast iron skillets that I have for grilling. The cool thing about this is that I did heat the skillets up first, before adding my rice, which gave the rice on the bottom a little char, and provided that lovely crunchy rice you get with a Korean stone bowl, or with a paella called socarrat.

I was able to utilize what little bit of sun we have been getting here in North Idaho, for this photo, so using natural light was great. I didn’t do too much with anything fancy for this photo, it really was just me using leftovers to throw a dish together for a photo shoot, nothing fancy and no recipe to go with it.

I tried cutting the burger & egg and getting a shot of that, but the top-down didn’t look great, and by the time I got to that, the egg had already turned cold, so the yoke didn’t run the way I wanted for a good photo.
