This week I played with small plates or appetizers. I just wanted to play around with camera settings and lighting along with wanting to get better with styling. I feel I am improving, but there is still a lot of work ahead of me. Right now I feel Photoshop is my weakest skill. So next semester I am taking a class on Photoshop and Lightroom. That should be a fun and useful class next year.
Meatballs with Tai Dipping Sauce
The featured image is meatballs with Tai dipping sauce.
For this, I wanted to try to create a symmetrical image. I should have used a darker surface under the plate to help create more contrast.
Meat: Frozen Meatballs
Condiments: 1 tbs Sweet Chile Sauce, ½ tbs Soy Sauce, ½ tbs Rice Vinegar, 1 tsp Fish Sauce
Produce: Finely Shredded Green Onion, Lemongrass paste
Small Forks

Again, just playing with composition and style. I am not really happy with the way this one turned out. However, I originally said I would post the good with the bad. I wish I would have used angel hair pasta. I used regular thin spaghetti, and getting just one or two strands to wrap around the fork was a fucking hassle. I think I spent more time wrapping those damn forks than I did taking the pictures. That helps explain why this photo is so sloppy.
Pasta

What do you do with extra pasta? Take another photo! This one was a little more fun than the previous one. Using a long-pronged carving fork, I was able to easily twirl the spaghetti into a long roll. Then easily plate with some fresh basil and sliced cherry tomatoes. Sprinkle the plate and pasta with some dried parsley, and boom, quick simple plate.
